Show Description
Astrid Duke invites you on a deeply personal journey of self-discovery and vulnerability. Renowned for her captivating storytelling and stellar vocals, Astrid steps away from the characters and stories of others to share her own. For years, she has crafted her career on stage, slipping effortlessly into roles created by others. Now, she sheds the layers of performance to reveal the raw, unfiltered truth of her own life.
Astrid's inspiration for this show comes from a myriad of sources and countless life events that have shaped her. Drawing on a diverse musical palette, Astrid blends elements of country, blues, folk, rock & roll, and pop, creating a unique and immersive musical experience that transcends genres.
At the heart of ‘Baring It All’ is Astrid's courage to confront her fears and share her most intimate and hilarious experiences with the audience. Through her songs and stories, she explores themes of love, loss, resilience, change and the universal human experience. Each song is a chapter in Astrid's life, a reflection of her journey to self-acceptance and understanding.
As Astrid bares her soul on stage, she creates a space for connection and empathy, inviting the audience to reflect on their own naked truths and experiences. Her performance is a testament to the power of storytelling and the cathartic nature of sharing our deepest emotions with others.
Join Astrid Duke in 'Baring It All - A Cabaret Of Naked Truths' and witness an evening of vulnerability, connection, and hope. Experience the transformative power of music and storytelling as Astrid opens her heart and shares her naked truths with the world.
2024 NAFA Review
Astrid Duke’s one-woman show is an intimate cabaret-style performance in which she divulges her adult journey of self-exploration through storytelling and song. She bares her soul - not her body - to promote awareness of mental illness and wellbeing. Astrid’s musical pieces are honest accounts of her experiences: managing her mental health, questioning her identity and self worth, receiving a diagnosis from her psychologist, dodging narcissistic romantic interests, finding Mr Right and becoming a wife and mother.
Supported by backing tracks of original material, Astrid is a capable singer who can carry a tune well, however, she also communicates her story with her expressive face and smile, movement and a dazzling costume. With moments of humour sprinkled throughout too, this performance encourages audience members to take stock of the positives in their life, and evokes feelings of gratitude and appreciation. Astrid can certainly teach us all something about self care and wellbeing.
